Michael Penick. That's me. I've been drawing stuff for as long as I can remember. To do it for a living is a wonderful thing.
I grew up in Alabama and Texas, attended college in New York City at the School of Visual Arts where I graduated with a BFA in Cartooning and Illustration, served witht the 101st Airborne at Ft. Campbell, KY and received an honorable discharge after four years of hard work, got my art skills back up to snuff working at the Leo Burnett advertising agency in Chicago as a storyboard artist for six and a half years before finally becoming a full-time freelance artist late in 2003.
In the past 11+ years I've had the opportunity to work on countless national ad campaigns, work on several film projects, draw a comic strip for Sports Illustrated, design interactive touch screen display interfaces, design websites, and even dabble in motion graphics. I love the variety and the challenges they bring with them. Problem solving and working together to bring ideas to life are areas of particular interest. So is storytelling, in all its myriad forms.
For all my experience I still consider myself nothing more than a student and love the process of learning, improving myself with each and every job I do.
Blue skies!
